Headline: 2016 Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue: IASS Engages in Science-Policy Outreach on Global Energy Transition

How are research efforts at the IASS contributing to the transformation of our energy systems at the national and international level? On 17–18 March we will be showcasing our research activities and findings relating to energy transitions at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue. Researchers from the IASS will be on hand throughout the event at our booth in the main conference room.

Following the successful first conference in 2015, the German Federal Foreign Office is again hosting a gathering of the international energy elite to promote dialogue towards a “global Energiewende”. In the wake of the successful conclusion of COP21 in Paris, the most immediate challenge is the development of a concept for an intelligent, sustainable, and cost-efficient energy transition.

The conference will be opened by keynote speeches from Federal Foreign Minister Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Sigmar Gabriel. It will be attended by representatives of many different countries, including foreign ministers and ministers of energy as well as high-level representatives from business, science, administration, and civil society.

Energy issues represent an important part of the IASS’s holistic approach to sustainability. Within our research programme Transformation of Energy Systems, we analyse ongoing and past transformation processes and explore options for a future with renewable energy. In particular, one of our projects is dedicated to developing and mobilising knowledge to support a global transition to sustainable energy, with a particular focus on the role of Germany in international energy governance. Our most recent works in this area include a study on The Future of Energy Supply in Africa and another on The German Energy Transition in International Perspective. Both of these will be available free of charge at the event, along with other IASS publications.

If you would like to know more about our work, come and meet us at the conference!

The IASS stand will be located in the Europasaal.
