On November 7 2012 IASS Scientific Director Prof. Rubbia gave a keynote address during the <a href="http://www.dii-eumena.com/annual-conference/conference-2012/pictures.html">3rd Dii Desert Energy Conference</a>, an international event held at the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin from November 7 through 9.

The IASS and the Nordic embassies in Berlin organised an international conference "The Energiewende - is there a Nordic Way?" on 15-16 October. Peter Altmaier opened the conference with a keynote, further speakers included Paavo Lipponen. The video clips are available online now.

How can science make a difference in complex global problems that span national and academic boundaries? IASS Scientific Director Carlo Rubbia presented two approaches to the question on the opening day of the conference “Worlds Within Reach: From Science to Policy,” which celebrated the 40th anniversary of the IIASA.

Rio+20 affirmed the global need for more pluralist approaches to supporting key sustainability agenda agents: civil society, business and local authorities and their alliances. Springer Verlag has just published the edited volume emerging from the IASS Transgovernance project that ran from Summer 2010 until Fall, 2011.

IASS cooperates with Nordic Embassies to hold conference “The Energiewende – is there a Nordic Way?” on October 15th and 16th in Berlin. Participants feature Peter Altmaier (Federal Minister for the Environment), Paavo Lipponen (former Prime Minister of Finland) Prof. Dr. Klaus Töpfer and other experts. The IASS SIWA cluster discussed short-lived climate-forcing pollutants in a transdisciplinary workshop in Berlin.

The workshop Renewable Energy Perspectives in Latin America in the International Context will take place at the IASS on October 1st and 2nd.

At the public hearing on the Energiewende on June 28th, Klaus Töpfer (IASS), Reinhard Hüttl (Acatech), and Robert Schlögl (MPI), opened the dialogue to experts from science, economics, technology, industry and politics: "Where do we stand, and where do we go from here?"
