Headline: Prof. Dr. Klaus Töpfer received Wilhelmine von Bayreuth Prize

Prof. Dr. Klaus Töpfer received the “Wilhelmine von Bayreuth Prize for Tolerance and Humanity in Cultural Diversity” from the city of Bayreuth for “His lasting impact and his great commitment as Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme as well as Founding Director for the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies” (IASS).

The award was presented by Brigitte Merk-Erbe, Mayor of Bayreuth, during a ceremony held under the auspices of the Future Forum 2012, “Water in Global Change,” on November 16, 2012. The annual “Wilhelmine von Bayreuth Prize” is awarded to personalities or groups who have made outstanding cultural, social, political or scientific contributions that critically reflect common moral concepts and intercultural understanding on an international level. Former laureates include Madjiguène Cissé, founder of the Women’s Network for Sustainable Development in Africa, Hassan ibn Talal of Jordan, Daniel Barenboim and Prof Wole Soyinka, Nobel Prize winner in Literature.
