Headline: IASS wins Potsdam Congress Award

For their Global Sustainability Summer School 2012, IASS Potsdam and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) won the Congress Award in the category "innovative and/or unusual events” on 14 November. The award was presented by Potsdam’s Mayor Jann Jacobs. In its explanatory statement, the jury said that the Summer School was not just a congress but “an investment in the future and, in terms of the concept and organisation, unique among all the submissions.”

The Global Sustainability Summer School is an international and interdisciplinary summer academy jointly organised by IASS and PIK. During the event, about 40 participants from science, business, politics and NGOs work on and discuss issues concerned with global sustainability. The two-week programme consists of lectures, discussions, workshops, creative sessions and excursions.

The Congress Award, which has now been conferred for the fourth time, honours organisers of conferences and congresses held in Potsdam which are from the scientific, research, business and cultural fields. Prize money amounting to €1,000 is awarded in each of the three categories. This year, a total of 22 entries were submitted to the judging panel.
