Headline: At the Forefront of Electric Vehicle Development: IASS Fellow Awarded the Prince Philip Medal

He is passionate about eco-friendly driving: Professor Ching Chuen Chan, a Senior Fellow of the IASS, was awarded the 2014 Prince Philip Medal for his role in advancing the field of electric vehicles. This honour is awarded biennially by the UK’s Royal Academy of Engineering to an engineer of any nationality who has made an exceptional contribution to engineering through practice, management or education.

Professor Chan is Honorary Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Hong Kong and joined the IASS in 2012 as a Senior Fellow. A co-founder of the World Electric Vehicle Association, in his long career he has always been at the forefront of electric vehicle development, also acting as an advisor to major car manufacturers. In his research activities, he focuses on improving the technology for electric vehicles, as well as making them more affordable and developing the necessary infrastructure to support their widespread use.

As a Senior Fellow at the IASS, he has worked on the smart charging of electric vehicles and the correlation between energy and information in thermodynamics.
