Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences

Jägerstrasse 22/23, 10117 Berlin (Einstein Room)

Are the various technologies for targeted interventions in the climate (known as climate engineering or geoengineering) that are currently being investigated viable for deployment? What effects and risks would be associated with the deployment of these technologies? What role – if any – will climate engineering play in European climate policy? What challenges does climate engineering present for research and its regulation? The report on the first European Transdisciplinary Assessment of Climate Engineering (EuTRACE Report) provides insight into these questions. As part of the EU-financed research project EuTRACE, fourteen research organisations in five European countries (Germany, France, the UK, Norway and Austria) have gathered data on the current state of research on climate engineering in the humanities and the natural and social sciences and formulated options for future research and policy development in order to make the discussion on climate engineering accessible to a wider public. The report will be presented to the public on 15 July 2015 by:

  • Professor Mark Lawrence, Scientific Director of the IASS Potsdam
  • Professor Jón Egill Kristjánsson, Oslo University
  • Dr Wilfried Rickels, Kiel Institute for the World Economy
  • Professor Jürgen Scheffran, University of Hamburg
  • Katherine Houghton, IASS Potsdam
  • Stefan Schäfer, IASS Potsdam

The presentation of the EuTRACE Report will be in English and moderated by Tim Kruger (Oxford Geoengineering Programme). There will also be an opportunity to discuss the results in German after the main presentation.
