Marcel Matthess joined the IASS as a Research Associate in December 2018 where he works for the project on "Digitalisation and Impacts on Sustainability". He explores how global value chains are affected by digitalisation. Focusing on countries in the Global South, his main interest is to investigate the role of digital technologies in industrial processes as well as the emergence of business models enabled by digital technologies within the context of sustainable development.
Marcel Matthess studied Business Administration and Sustainability Science at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and the University of Salamanca. The analysis of complex societal sustainability issues as well as the conduct of transdisciplinary projects formed an integral part of his studies. During his studies he worked for a subsidy programme on resource efficiency of companies at the Investment- and Development Bank of Hamburg. He also worked as a student assistant at the Institute for Ethics and Transdisciplinary Sustainability Research at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg.
