Dr. Lena Bendlin's research focusses on the success factors for the diffusion of innovations for sustainability and climate change mitigation. She is especially interested in governance modes for policy experimentation and transfer in multi-level systems and local and municipal conditions for implementation. She studied political science at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and Sciences Po Lille and graduated in the Franco-German double degree program for European Studies. With a stipend from the Heinrich Böll Foundation, she did a doctorate at the Otto Suhr Institute at Freie Universität Berlin on the governance of voluntary local climate policy in the EU. As a research associate at the Environmental Policy Research Centre, Dr. Lena Bendlin taught various courses on European environmental and climate policy, policy analysis, multi-level governance and the gender dimensions of climate policy. Since January 2018, she works on transdisciplinary research projects for urban transformations at the German Institute of Urban Affairs (Difu) in Berlin.
