Dr. Barbara Olfe-Kräutlein is a Senior Research Associate and heads the research group CO2 Utilization Strategies and Society. The group currently works on different questions and projects related to societal aspects of CO2 utilization technologies; currently in the scientific support programme (CO2Net+) of the German Federal funding scheme CO2Plus, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the project CO2Min, also funded by BMBF, and for the European Commission (DG CLIMA). Holding a PhD in communication and media studies, she joined the IASS in 2013 to establish the institute's new research programme on the societal aspects of Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) technologies. Since then, Barbara Olfe-Kräutlein has been responsible for the institute's research on communication and acceptance issues in the field of CCU and for stakeholder engagement. She has set up a series of dialogue events about technologies that utilise CO2. Prior to her career in science, Barbara Olfe-Kräutlein worked as a communications professional in the industry for several years, gaining considerable experience in public relations and corporate communications, particularly around technical matters.
