About

IASS Project

Research Interests

  • My current focus is on financial markets and their role for sustaining the economy, the society, and the environment. This includes the stability of the financial system itself,  i.e. its resilience concerning endogenous dynamics, and exogenous shocks.
  • Moreover, I am interested in how to deal with big uncertainties that interact in a synergistic way. This is what Integrated Risk Governance is basically about. I am, for example, contributing innovative Bayesian approaches for dealing with large-scale uncertainties.

Curriculum Vitae

  • 2008-current: Leader of the research line Integrated Risk Governance of the Global Climate Forum (GCF).
  • 2008-2012: Head of the research group Integrated Risk Governance of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK).
  • 2006-2009: Head of the research group Bayesian Risk Management, a joint initiative of PIK, the University of Potsdam, the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), and GCF (under its former name European Climate Forum). This group was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research as part of the project Mainstreaming Climate Risks and Opportunities in the Financial Sector (cf. www.climate-mainstreaming.net).
