Headline: Workshop: Methane Emissions from the Shale Gas Industry

Emissions of methane, other volatile organic compounds, and oxides of nitrogen can occur during all stages of gas exploration and exploitation and for all types of gas deposits (conventional and unconventional). The workshop "Emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants from an emerging European shale gas industry" will aim to estimate upper and lower bounds for current and future emissions given what is known about European shale gas reserves, and emissions factors associated with current and likely future regulatory frameworks and technologies. The participants, who represent academia, regulatory agencies, NGOs and industry, will also investigate the criteria and technical parameters required to enable environmental and health impacts assessments.
