Model-based Policy Advice for Air Quality

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 90 per cent of the world’s population is exposed to harmful levels of air pollution. Several million premature deaths annually are attributed to air pollution. Improving the quality of the air that we breathe is fundamental to efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. What are the impacts of changes in the emission of pollutants such as nitrous oxides? How do they affect human health and ecosystems? Working in cooperation with various partners, this research project studies the interdependencies between air pollution and climate change. Its global goal is to provide science-based policy advice for the improvement of air quality in Europe.
