Prof. Dr. Martin Jänicke (married, two children) has forty years of experience as professor for comparative politics, scientific author, and senior policy advisor.

Since 2017: Visiting Professsor at Qinghai Normal University, China

Since 2013: member of the Advisory Group on Innovation and Technology Analysis of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)

2011: Member of the Enquete Commission of the German Federal Parliament on “Growth, Wealth and Quality of Life”

2004 and 2011–2012: Advisor to the Chinese Government

1999–2008: Member and Vice President (2000–2004) of the German Government's Expert Council on the Environment; Expert Reviewer/Review Editor of the IPCC 4th and 5th Assessment Reports, member of the International Advisory Board of the Wuppertal Institute and the board of the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt

1986–2007: Director of the Environmental Policy Research Centre, Freie Universität Berlin

1974–1976: Advisor of the planning staff at the German Chancellor’s Office
