Oscar Schmidt holds a MSc in Integrated Natural Resource Management and a BSc in Horticultural Sciences both from Humboldt University of Berlin. Oscar has conducted research in a number of countries and regions including Indonesia, East Timor, Albania, Turkey, and the European Union. Before joining the IASS Global Soil Forum, Oscar worked as a research fellow at the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Development in Middle and Eastern Europe (IAMO) and as a consultant for research projects organised by the German Development Institute (DIE), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Besides working for the IASS, Oscar is currently writing up his doctoral thesis in the Division of Resource Economics at Humboldt University Berlin. His thesis assesses the social, economic, and cultural implications of state-driven agrarian modernisation and intensification in rural communities of South-Eastern Turkey.
