Kathleen Mar joined the IASS in 2012 and became the project leader for the new project “Climate Action in National and International Processes (ClimAct)” in 2017. ClimAct investigates how scientific expertise can facilitate climate action, particularly within international forums such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC). Prior to joining the IASS, Kathleen worked at the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) on the implementation and enforcement of the Clean Air Act. Her academic background is in atmospheric chemistry.
Kathleen has always felt most at home with one foot in the world of science and one foot in the world of policy, with a strong interest in science-policy interactions and how to make them more effective. Likewise she strives to be an integrator in the areas of climate change and air quality, advocating for a holistic approach to policy development in the two arenas.
