Curriculum Vitae

Grischa Beier studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Ilmenau. During his studies he took advantage of the opportunity to study and gain practical work experience abroad, namely in Russia (ITMO, St. Petersburg) and Brazil (UFSC, Florianopolis). For his diploma thesis, he developed a high-speed camera device at the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

In 2006 he joined the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology (IPK) as a research assistant. Over the next seven years he worked on a number of research and industry projects in the area of Virtual Product Creation. He obtained his PhD in engineering from the Technical University Berlin in January 2014, with a distinction for his work on the usage of traceability data in systems engineering.

Grischa Beier joined the IASS as a project specialist in September 2014 and initially set up the project “Sustainability aspects of Industry 4.0”. This project investigated the potential sustainability impacts of future trends in industrial practice such as an increasing interconnectedness and auto-adaptability of production sites coupled with growing demand for the mass customisation of products. In 2017 he became the Scientific Project Leader for the new IASS project on “Digitalisation and Impacts on Sustainability”, which explores the effects of digitalisation on international cooperation, e-Governance, and future industrial processes.
