Curriculum Vitae

  • Girum Getachew Alemu earned his PhD in Geography and M.A in Development Studies. He is a Research Associate in the accompanying research to the Global Programme on “Soil Protection and Rehabilitation for Food Security” since November 2015. Before joining IASS, he was working as Participatory Land use Planning (PLUP) consultant for the German International Development Cooperation (GIZ) in Ethiopia as part of the special Global initiative “One World, No Hunger”. He also worked as a Scientific Assistant at the Chair of Development Geography, University of Bonn. As part of an interdisciplinary doctoral degree program at the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS), Mr. Alemu conducted research on risk management and livelihood security at the interface of state-society-environment interaction in rural Ethiopia using a political ecology approach. He has acquired experience in research and outreach while working as Research Assistant in the Global Livestock-Pastoralists Risk Management (GL-PARIMA) Project based at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
