Curriculum Vitae

  • Barbara Neumann studied Geography at Saarland University and at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver/Burnaby (Canada) and received her doctorate in Geography from Saarland University in 2002. Thereafter, she worked as research associate in environmental research with the Department of Geography in Saarbrücken and worked as freelance consultant. In 2010, she joined the Coastal Risks and Sea-Level Rise Research Group in the Department of Geography at Kiel University and received a 5-year project funding from the Cluster of Excellence “The Future Ocean” for independent postdoctoral research on “Coastal Sustainability and Governance” in 2012.
  • Since June 2017, Barbara Neumann is project scientist with the Ocean Governance team at IASS and will, inter alia, be working on specific issues related to the implementation of the sustainable development goal (SDG) 14 on the conservation and sustainable use or oceans and marine resources. Her research expertise is in social-ecological systems analysis in coastal and marine regions with a specific interest in land-ocean interactions and the sustainable use and development of coastal areas.
  • Barbara Neumann is affiliated with the Cluster of Excellence "The Future Ocean" and Kiel Marine Science, and she is fellow with the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) at the University of Wollongong (Australia).
