Headline: Workshop on the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests

The joint IASS-FAO workshop “Quo vadis, VGGT? Learning from the implementation experiences of other human rights-based approaches and instruments” focuses on the crucial nexus between human rights and land governance in the context of the human rights-based Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT). The idea is to learn from other processes of implementing human rights-based instruments and approaches in order to identify future strategies to further support the implementation of the VGGT. Starting with the right to food approach, we may turn to other policy and human rights issues, such as housing, business and trade, women, indigenous peoples, environment etc. What kinds of strategies have worked to achieve which outcomes? Which have not worked? What are current actions to apply the VGGT and how can they benefit from these lessons learned? Together we want to reflect on how to harness the positive effects of the human rights framework for the implementation of the VGGT while at the same time avoiding its perceived or actual pitfalls.
