Headline: Workshop: European Perspectives on Sustainable Biomass

On 29 and 30 June the IASS is organising a workshop on European Perspectives on Sustainable Biomass in the Post-2015 Development Agenda in Brussels. The aim of the workshop is to discuss, together with around 50 stakeholders, how review and follow-up mechanisms for the sustainable development goals (SDGs) can be formulated in European countries. Many European countries have already developed and begun to implement sustainability and bioeconomy strategies. That’s why the question of how the SDGs are to be effectively implemented is particularly pertinent to Europe. At the same time, the importance of regional mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of the SDGs has been emphasised during the negotiations on the SDGs by UN Member States. Workshop participants will discuss how all these elements can be brought together and also examine Europe’s specific responsibility in the light of this. The focus will lie on the role of biomass (for the production of food, feed, energy and materials) in sustainable development.
