Headline: Opening Event for the International Year of Soils 2015

The UN General Assembly has declared 5 December “Day of Soils” and 2015 “International Year of Soils”. To mark these occasions, an opening event with the title „Germany’s land use: global perspectives, global responsibilities” will take place in the premises of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Protection, Building and Nuclear Safety in Berlin. IASS Executive Director Klaus Töpfer, the Director-General for the Environment at the European Commission Karl Falkenberg and other high-level speakers will discuss questions such as: To what extent soils are endangered? How do imports of food, feed and resources impact on soils in other countries? What is Germany’s responsibility in this context? What are necessary measures to be taken and what are definite plans?

The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Protection, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) together with the Federal Environment Agency, the Society for International Co-operation (GIZ) and the IASS organise this meeting. Prior registration is required.
