Headline: Workshop: Assessing the Health and Ecosystem Impacts of Future Global Air Pollution Scenarios

The Task Force on Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution (TF HTAP) is an international scientific cooperative effort to improve the understanding of the intercontinental transport of air pollution across the Northern Hemisphere. The Task Force organises scientific cooperation in the areas of emissions inventories and projections, analysis of ambient monitoring and remote sensing, global and regional modelling, and impact assessment to understand the intercontinental flows of ozone and its precursors, fine particles and their components, mercury, and persistent organic pollutants (POPs).

The workshop “Assessing the Health and Ecosystem Impacts of Future Global Air Pollution Scenarios” at the IASS will focus on the assessment of health and ecosystem impacts of future emissions scenarios. In the HTAP2 context, this will mean discussing the application of updated source/receptor relationships from the 2008-2010 experiments to the 2010-2050 emissions scenarios and estimating the health and ecosystem effects (i.e., putting it all together). We also hope to connect to other health and ecosystem impacts work at the global scale, such as the Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and the community contributing to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Working Group 2 in the Sixth Assessment Report. IASS researchers from the Air Quality in the Context of Global Change programme will give two presentations at the workshop: about scenario development in the Arctic; and attribution and uncertainty of European air pollution trends. The workshop will seek to make recommendations with respect to both near-term work under TF HTAP and longer-term work to inform the IPCC.
