Headline: General Status Meeting: Best Paths

With nearly 40 leading organisations from research, industry, utilities, and transmission systems operators, the EU funded project Best Paths aims to develop novel network technologies to increase the pan-European transmission network capacity and electricity system flexibility. A general status meeting for the project area Demo 5, a demonstrator dedicated to superconducting electric lines, will take place at the IASS on the 4th of May. Throughout the day-long get-together, the partners will update each other in detail on the most recent results and developments within the various tasks of the project. Upcoming priorities, next steps and opportunities for dissemination will also be discussed.

Demo 5 is currently undertaking research and development work for a full-scale cable system using magnesium diboride (MgB2) as the superconducting material and transferring up to 3.2 GW. This phase will be followed by the assembling of the demonstrator in 2017 and final testing in 2018. The IASS is involved in the scientific coordination of the research and development work package and will also have a leading role in the dissemination activities for the demonstration results.
