Headline: Empowering the Poor: Session at the European Development Days in Brussels

Bridging the gap between local realities and the level of ambition enshrined in the SDGs requires continuous societal learning processes. These need to be organized in a way that takes the interests and views of the poorest and most vulnerable into account. Inclusive, participatory and transparent follow-up and review mechanisms of the 2030 Agenda are key to achieve this. Inequalities often manifest themselves in a lack of access to natural resources. Overcoming disempowerment of those most vulnerable requires them having a say in the governance and management of natural resources. The kind of data we collect through follow-up and review mechanisms and the way we collect it can open up ways for the poorest and most vulnerable to hold governments accountable.
